About the Art-Tutor Christine Lester

Christine Lester is a professional painter and art tutor, experienced in a wide variety of mediums and subjects. She is a Member of the SAA as a Professional Artist and Demonstrator.

Although originally from Essex, Christine Lester developed her painting skills when she lived in Somerset. Painting a variety of subjects in oils, acrylics and watercolours, she exhibited widely at West Country locations, from The Bath Society and Clifton Arts to local galleries and pubs!

Back in East Anglia, her own paintings take the region - its places and its people - for inspiration. Christine now lives in Fryerning and Woodbridge, and when not teaching spends much of her time time painting – of course!

SUFFOLK OPEN STUDIOS

Last year I participated again in Suffolk Open Studios, a chance for over a hundred Suffolk artists to welcome visitors to their working spaces and exhibitions. There was a Showcase exhibition in which we all participated, at Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham, Bury St Edmunds, from 26th May to 4th June. Throughout weekends in June individual artists opened their studios to the public, giving people the opportunity to experience 'behind the scenes' and find out where and how they produce their work and discuss the inspiration behind it. I had my own space on the first floor of the old brewery at Melton, on the outskirts of Woodbridge, between the Melton Antiques shop and the Coach & Horses pub! All sounds a bit alcoholic..... my weekends took place on June 9/10 and 16/17.

The Open Studios' magazine includes a section about my work (pg.46, no.75):
'My main loves are portraiture - of people and animals - and figures, particularly in interesting environments or situations. However, other inspiration does seem to sprint out of the blue!' Free brochures are available, you may request to be sent one.

I am taking part again this year in Suffolk Open Studios. People can come along to see an exhibition of my recent work and have a chat about work in progress. I'd also be happy to explain the way that the art breaks work and answer any questions. I'm number 68 in the 2013 SOS directory!

Open 11am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday June 1/2 and 8/9 at The Old Brewery Antiques, Melton Road, Woodbridge IP12 1PD.
